The Pitt News Centennial Celebration!
Check out the volume number on today’s Pitt News: It’s 100, and that means it’s time to celebrate.
If you worked at the Pitt News, then there’s still time to join our mailing list and get information about the newspaper's 100th Anniversary Celebration at Homecoming 2010. You can also volunteer to help plan the event and spread the word to classmates who worked with you at the newspaper.
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2010:An open house at The Pitt News office, 434 William Pitt Union. Alumni can stop by all day to tour the office, meet the current staff, and look over bound volumes of newspapers from their years here.
That evening, in the Cathedral of Learning, Pitt Newsers can enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres at the all-University Alumni Reception. The University will designate 10 Nationality Rooms (one per decade) around the main reception as places for Pitt Newsers to hang out and catch up. Fireworks and a laser show on Bigelow Avenue follow the reception.
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2010:Attend the football game at Heinz Field. The Pitt News will reserve a block of seats, and you can buy tickets through Pitt Athletics’ ticket office.
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 31, 2010: Pitt News will host a Centennial Brunch in the William Pitt Union, featuring a keynote speech by Scott MacLeod ‘76, an international correspondent in Cairo for Time Magazine, and a former editor in chief of The Pitt News. The office will again be open for visits both before and after the brunch.
